Linear consumption economies have created a globalized plastic crisis that have impacted Earth Systems and undermines human wellbeing. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and the Global South are disproportionately impacted at all stages of plastic production, consumption, and disposal, driven by environmental racism and waste colonialism. This session digs into how a more circular reuse and refill economy includes Black, Indigenous, and People of Color lifeways, leverages traditional knowledge and behavior, and accounts for the costs to land and health from the bottom-up.
