Dr. Gomez is an accomplished Registered Professional Engineer in Florida, boasting a rich blend of certifications and academic qualifications that underscore her expertise in the engineering, resilience, and sustainability sectors. In addition, Dr. Gómez brings over 20 years of hands-on experience in the fields of engineering, resilience, and sustainability across both the public and private sectors.
She currently serves as the Aviation Special Advisor for Energy and Resilience, where she leads the planning, management, and implementation of the Aviation Department’s energy, sustainability, and resilience initiatives with the goal of MIA reaching new heights in sustainability and resilience. Prior to this role, Dr. Gómez held dual positions as Interim Chief Resilience Officer and Director of Energy in Miami-Dade County’s Office of Resilience. During her tenure, she successfully advanced a wide range of projects that enhanced the resilience and sustainability of County facilities and operations—achievements that also delivered measurable improvements in energy and water efficiency. Her accomplishments include launching enterprise-wide utility billing management software, initiating the Building Efficiency 305 (BE305) program, advancing the County’s Climate Action Strategy, and deploying on-site solar installations.
Dr. Gómez began her career with Miami-Dade County as an Engineer in the Department of Environmental Resources Management, where she contributed to the County’s first Climate Action Plan. She is a LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C), and ENV SP, a Certified Energy Manager, and a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida. Dr. Gómez earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami.
