Record-breaking temperatures are the new normal. Grids are not electrifying swiftly enough. And global climate agreements remain deeply political despite the science. Nevertheless, the need for climate action only intensifies. From Zero Waste advocates to the World Economic Forum, Zero Waste has long been characterized as the fastest, easiest, and cheapest path to solving the climate crisis. So why doesn’t Zero Waste top the list of climate solutions for climate leaders worldwide?
This session will open with a brief overview of global climate goals and how they currently reference Zero Waste. Then, a panel of speakers will explore parallel activities taking place in climate and Zero Waste spaces from the perspectives of education, degrowth, emissions, and action. This roundtable dialogue will highlight the key points of connection between climate and Zero Waste and identify opportunities to more effectively elevate Zero Waste as a mainstream climate solution.
