Race to Zero Waste

Race to Zero Waste is a nonprofit that brings the vision of Zero Waste to reality by putting sustainability in action! Race to Zero Waste (R20W) is devoted to education and outreach on zero waste principles through straightforward actions such as reuse, source reduction, re-earth, and avoidance of single-use plastics. R20W is committed to upholding equity and accessibility while promoting a zero waste ethic, recognizing that each person has a different set of circumstances and capabilities. R20W extends personal action into advocacy for an equitable circular economy wherein zero waste is a convenient and accessible lifestyle for all.

R20W’s versatile and engaging sponsored activities include signature Zero Waste Station pop-ups, information and tips geared toward low-waste living, meeting citizens where they are in their journey, encouraging participation through campaigns such as Zero Waste Action Month, and thereby promoting clean, healthy, and vibrant communities.

Race to Zero Waste obtained California non-profit corporation status in 2019. It was formerly a fiscally sponsored project of Marin Link from 2014 to 2019. During that time, Race to Zero Waste hosted a signature project known as the Cup-Free & Bib-Free 5K Run to Zero Waste. Money raised by the project enabled the placement of more beach clean-up stations in San Francisco, the precursors to R20W’s signature Zero Waste Station pop-up program.
