Sherry Bell Surrette grew up on a small farm in rural West Tennessee. She earned her bachelor’s in agronomy from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a master’s from Mississippi State University in agronomy with a minor in plant pathology. She holds a doctorate in biology from the University of Mississippi. Throughout her career, she has held various environmental education positions with USDA-NRCS, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and for 10 years served as Center Head at the Mississippi State University – Central Research & Extension Center. Dr. Surrette is currently an Associate Extension Professor in Environmental Education with MSU-CMREC. In 2023, she was recognized as one of Mississippi’s Top 50 Business Women by the Mississippi Business Journal. She also currently serves and the 1st female Board President of the Research Center Administrators Society.
