Samuel McMullen is the Executive Director and co-founder of ZeroWaste.Org, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people, businesses, and cities take concrete steps towards zero waste. Based in New York City, Samuel has been living a zero waste lifestyle for over eight years, a commitment that has shaped both his personal and professional life.
In 2017, while researching the impacts of extraction and production in Beijing, China, Samuel and his sister Lydia founded ZeroWaste.Org with a mission to make zero waste accessible and practical for everyone. Since then, the organization has launched numerous initiatives, from educational campaigns to community-based programs, all aimed at reducing waste and bringing champions together from across sectors to foster a culture of sustainability.
Samuel’s background in web development and marketing informs ZeroWaste.Org’s approach to creating scalable, durable, and effective social change programming. His ability to combine technical expertise with creative marketing strategies has helped support the growth and impact of ZeroWaste.Org.
When he’s not at work, Samuel enjoys playing for Brooklyn’s worst recreational softball team (0-30), experimenting in the kitchen, and occasionally playing the cello.
