Kevin Drew retired as the Senior Zero Waste Specialist for the City of San Francisco (City) with 35 years’ experience in the field, including overseeing the city’s Fantastic 3 source separated collection program capturing organics, recyclables and trash citywide from 400,000 residences and 40,000 businesses.
He led the City’s efforts to sequester carbon through the use of City generated organics. This creates compost and treats soils in the surrounding “food-shed” to grow critical agricultural products in a healthy and regenerative manner while building soil carbon, increasing water holding capacity, and creating safe, community-friendly jobs and businesses.
Kevin brings over 45 years of experience in community organizing and mobilization to effect change and implement programs. This includes working extensively with United Farm Workers Union, AFL-CIO, Citizens Action League, Red Vic Movie House Collective, Haight-Ashbury Neighborhood Council, San Francisco Community Recyclers, Richmond Environmental Action, BuildingREsources, Marin Carbon Project, GAIA-Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, Deconstruction Works, SF Garden for the Environment and Northern California Recycling Association.
