Kathi Mirza

Kathi Mirza is the Branch Chief for Municipal Waste Reduction Programs at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), where she manages technical assistance programs, grants, and outreach to increase the effectiveness of local and regional waste reduction programs across the Commonwealth. Before starting in this new role in 2023, Kathi managed the team of statewide Municipal Assistance Coordinators (MACs), oversaw municipal contracting efforts, and helped lead implementation of the state’s first Reduce & Reuse Action Plan. Prior to this, Kathi was a MAC for 23 years, serving 44 municipalities in southeastern MA through hands-on assistance and grant coordination to strengthen municipal programs that reduce waste and increase recycling and composting. Kathi holds a bachelor’s degree from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University.
