Brianna Treat is a dedicated sustainability expert with over a decade’s experience focused on large-scale waste reduction, corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting, green building certifications, and carbon accounting. Her journey began with a degree in Sustainability from the University of Oklahoma, leading her to a role in Baltimore, MD. There, she honed her skills as a waste reduction specialist, tackling waste management for hospitals, commercial buildings, and prominent sports venues, humorously dubbing herself a “professional trash talker.”
Brianna’s career took a significant turn when she became the lead Sustainability Consultant for several global commercial real estate firms. In this role, she developed expertise in ESG reporting, assisting clients with their annual GRI and GRESB submissions. Her growing interest in Green Building Certifications led her to Ecoworks Studio where she worked on green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, and TRUE Zero Waste.
At this firm, Brianna’s passion for sustainability and sports converged. She played a pivotal role in certifying the first zero-waste NBA game and the first zero-waste arena globally, achievements that linked her waste management experience with her love for sports. These milestones underscored the role of sports venues as community change agents, a concept Brianna was eager to explore further.
Currently, Brianna is the Director of Sustainability for Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken. In this role, she integrates environmental sustainability across both organizations. She oversees sustainability initiatives at the arena, including tracking carbon and utility data, working towards a 95% waste diversion goal, leading the ban on single-use plastics by 2024, and ensuring sustainability is woven into every aspect of the organizations. Brianna’s extensive background has uniquely positioned her to drive Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken in their commitment to the Climate Pledge, embodying her lifelong dedication to sustainability.
