About Deon
Deon Shekuza is a Namibian sustainable development and climate strategist with over a decade of experience advancing youth participation in environmental governance, climate action and just transitions.
He has worked across the UNFCCC, Convention on Biological Diversity and other Rio Convention processes, while building youth networks and initiatives advancing renewable energy, biodiversity and community action.
His current work includes developing youth-led approaches to zero waste, including efforts to strengthen waste pickers as part of formal waste-management systems and create pathways for green livelihoods.
Deon brings a Global South youth perspective on how circular economy solutions can create jobs, strengthen communities and turn waste from a burden into an economic resource.
That is much stronger for this particular conference because it gives them three things immediately: who you are, what you’ve done, and what distinctive perspective you bring to zero waste.
