About Michelle
Michelle Horneff-Cohen is a recovering San Francisco residential property manager of over 25 years and the Founder of Clean Composting Company. After years of managing multifamily buildings under organics mandates and experiencing contamination challenges and fines, she realized the barrier wasn’t the residents, it was the system. In 2017, during a dinner cleanup, she had the idea that led to a simple, in-home solution for food scrap collection. Her work focuses on practical tools and behavior-driven strategies that make composting clean, consistent, and achievable in real-world housing environments.
