A 1998 graduate of Yale (B.A., Political Science) and a 2002 graduate of MIT (Master’s in City Planning), Michael serves as a Senior Advisor to the Commissioner at DEEP working on waste and recycling issues. He also oversees the daily operations of the Sustainable Materials Policy and Planning division within the Materials Management & Compliance Assurance Bureau. Michael’s efforts have encompassed commercial and institutional organics recycling, extended producer responsibility legislation and programs, programmatic and infrastructure grants distribution and administration, and bottle redemption program management. Prior to working at DEEP, Michael served as the Director of Public Works for the City of Hartford, CT where, during his tenure, he undertook several significant waste management initiatives and served as the Chair of the Central Connecticut Solid Waste Authority (CCSWA). His time with the City of Hartford was preceded by a 12 year career as an urban planning and development consultant. Michael resides in Hartford with his wife Rebecca and their two daughters, Anna and Isabel.
