How Zero Waste Pop Ups Can Support Zero Waste Events

October 23, 2025 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm

Speaker: Moderator: Sherry Gong • Speakers: Samantha Romanick, Kimberly Rios

Race to Zero Waste has used their award-winning Zero Waste Station Pop-Ups at events and public spaces across the San Francisco Bay Area to teach people about how to reduce waste and where their discards go: recycling, compost, and landfill. Through public education and hands-on sorting, they achieve waste diversion on-site, while providing practical knowledge that can be applied at home.

This year, Race to Zero Waste has expanded the Zero Waste Station Pop-Ups nationally by implementing a program to provide supplies and training for other organizations to run the Pop-Ups locally, meeting community members where they are in their journey toward Zero Waste. In this panel, participants will learn from the current program cohort about their experiences running the Pop-Ups, data collected, and key takeaways from the local level including the innovative “Fourth Bin” for reuse.
