Dr. Anja Malawi Brandon

Dr. Anja Malawi Brandon is an environmental engineer with an interdisciplinary background in sustainability, coastal ecosystems, and water quality. Anja holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Science from Stanford University where she was awarded an NSF graduate research fellowship. Her doctoral research focused on developing novel methods to degrade common plastics, an essential step towards creating cost-effective waste management systems that mitigate the environmental impact of plastics. Throughout her graduate education she sought out opportunities to apply her expertise to policy and decision-making through volunteer sustainability consulting and participating in a year-long professional development program to maximize the policy impact of science. Anja developed her passion for science and the ocean growing up in the Pacific NW and she is interested in pursuing that passion by working on projects that protect the marine environment.
